RE:CIRCLE Ontario's operating model starts where pre-consumer food waste otherwise reaches its sad end-of-life point: when it would be prepared to be landfilled. Instead, we repurpose this food waste to its highest possible value in line with the food recovery hierarchy.
Our first priority is processing organic food waste to animal feed, if its conditions allow. This "slurry" has proven to be a high-quality feed for animals of our farmer customers and is available in different grades of moisture. Alternatively, we feed anaerobic digesters with it and contribute to the production of biofuels and biofertilizers.
All packaging and inorganics that are delivered to our facilities are sorted and possibly addressed to commodity recycling specialists.
By these means, we close the loop for tons of unsold food, used aluminum cans, glass containers, cardboard or recyclable plastics. Our target is zero items end up being landfilled.
